LOL, I saw this on the Star website last night, it made me laugh. Apparently as Canadians we know nothing about our political system! I’m not even going to lie, I sure didn’t until this year (well, I’m sure that I learned this in high school, but I never bothered to remember). I took a course this year that actually had very little to do with the government.. it was called Marine Environmental Issues, yet the teacher assigned a book by the name of “Who runs this country anyway?” as one of our readings.

The book was a Scholastic CHILDREN’S BOOK, yet I was completely clueless about most of the things written inside. It’s a really concise and clear summary of all the parts of our government and how they work. Yeah, I’ll admit that I was ignorant, I didn’t care about the government at all – but now I think this knowledge is really important for all of us! The book is an easy read and well written.. maybe if you can’t answer the questions below you should pick it up at your local library, lol.
Anyhow, here were some of the survey questions from the article:
– Who is the head of state?
– How can Canada’s system of government best be described?
– Do Canadians elect the prime minister directly?
– Can the governor general can nix a prime minister’s request for a new election?
