I’ve been noticing this for a while, but does anyone else think that the world is unreasonably obsessed with Hello Kitty?  Today I was surfing my usual sites on the internet when I came across this, a Hello Kitty nail polish collection by MAC on All Lacquered Up.  Even MAC, which I would consider as a pretty “Western” company, has fallen victim to this strange kitty cartoon phenomenon, she’s not even that cute!   MAC has an entire Hello Kitty make up and accessory line waiting to make its debut in February, and they predict that it will be a GRAND SLAM.  Is it not totally ridiculous that you can buy Hello Kitty themed make up?  As I recall, old school Hello Kitty was just two colours: yellow and red, maybe with an occasional dash of blue.  I guess when they say “Hello Kitty” themed, what they really mean is young and girly.

This is something that my friends frequently joke about, “Oh, you’re Asian, you MUST love Hello Kitty.”  ACTUALLY, I don’t have a particular fondness for Hello Kitty, but I don’t have anything against it either.  I can see where they might get these assumptions.  Suffice it to say, I don’t think that Hello Kitty is just an Asian obsession anymore, she has managed to whore herself out pretty well on the international front.  Anyway, this MAC line prompted me to do more Hello Kitty research, just to see how many other stupid things her adoring fans could purchase with her face stamped on it (I know, minutes of my life that I will never get back -_______-;  I’m an idiot).  How about a toaster that toasts a recognizable imprint of her face? O________o

Let’s not neglect the other adorable members of the Sanrio family here.  I was always more of a Pochacco girl myself.  I had a Kero~Kero~Keroppi phase in childhood, back when I had a Keroppi lunch bag and matching lunch box.  Oh man, I was so cool.
