I don’t know about you guys, but food often goes bad before I can finish all of it. Case in point: my Ragu.

A few days ago, I had decided that I was craving some tomato sauce. This isn’t a craving that comes often, since I’ve always been more of a white sauce fan. I rummaged through my fridge for my Ragu – I knew it was around somewhere. This bottle of sauce had been sitting around for, pretty much, eternity. As soon as I opened it, the sound of a small explosion escaped *POP*. Soon after, I saw a white mist coming off the surface of the sauce. I gave it smell.. “hmm.. nothing too funky”
Then, I did what I (but not a sane person) would do.. I tasted it. Come on, I just had to know.
The stuff was FULLY carbonated and fermented. It was the strangest thing, like an alcoholic fizzy V8. Anyone care to explain this to me scientifically? Anyway, it was a tiny spoonful. I can only hope that there is no bacterial culture making its way through my blood stream right now. I hadn’t really thought much about it at the time. Luckily for me, I later realized that botulin probably can’t survive in such a highly acidic environment (I can only hope).
Oh yeah, I tossed it and opened a new bottle. Guess I should get cracking on this one.
